STORIES
Engineers at BUET combined five years of OpenDataBD rainfall and river-level data with satellite imagery to train a 72-hour flood prediction model. The model was piloted with BWDB during the 2024 monsoon season, issuing 14 accurate early warnings and helping evacuate over 8,000 households ahead of flash floods.
BRAC IED used OpenDataBD's upazila-level school enrollment and infrastructure datasets to identify 37 "learning deserts" — communities with zero secondary schools within 10 km. Their analysis directly informed the placement of 12 new satellite schools in 2025 Q1, reaching an estimated 3,600 students.
The Daily Star's data journalism team built an interactive inequality map from OpenDataBD's GDP-per-capita and poverty headcount datasets. The piece, published in February 2025, was read by over 180,000 people and cited in a parliamentary committee hearing on regional development budgets.
