OUR STORY
OpenDataBD was founded on a simple belief: transparent, accessible data is the foundation of a stronger, fairer Bangladesh.
MISSION
Bangladesh generates vast amounts of data from health outcomes in rural upazilas to flood records across river basins. Yet much of it remains locked in departmental silos, inaccessible to researchers, journalists, and citizens who need it most.
OpenDataBD exists to change that. We curate, verify, and publish public datasets under open licenses so anyone can explore, download, and build with them for free.
Every dataset is reviewed for source credibility and completeness before publication.
All datasets are published under open licenses. No paywalls, no sign-up required to browse.
Researchers, NGOs, and individuals can contribute datasets through our submission portal.
Programmatic access via REST API so developers can build apps and services on top of the data.
PRINCIPLES
Public data belongs to the public. We publish government and institutional datasets that citizens have a right to access and scrutinise.
Better data leads to better decisions. We work with researchers and institutions to surface datasets that can directly inform public policy.
We design for low-bandwidth conditions and offer data in multiple formats (CSV, JSON, XML) so even resource-constrained teams can participate.
